Mission Of The School Counseling Program

Shepherdstown Middle School's school counseling is integrated with academic and school enrichment programs.Academic, career, and personal and social development are considered.Our middle school students are encouraged to lead a thoughtful life with attention to decision making skills and compassion for others, and an orientation for continual learning and leadership within our world community.

Ninth Grade Registation and Career Readiness Preparation Continues

Parents and students of current eighth gradersattended an orientation at JHS, JHS counselors presented a registration workshop at SMS,and the registration process is continuing. Registrations are due to Ms. Carr no later than the end of January,however earlier submission is highly recommended. Students are receiving individual consultation of their registration andEXPLORE results.

Mobile Career Classroom Comes To SMS

The James Rumsey Mobile Career Classroom is scheduled to arrive at SMS in early March. 8th Grade students willparticipate in career labs March 6-17. A special parent's night on March 18 from noon through 7PM will give families an opportunity to tour the van.

West Virginia's Online WritingIn March

The test will be administered at SMS between March 6-28. A schedule will be provided later. All students will participate with the test.

Enrolling a Student?Student records areusually more easily processed by signing a release form with the current school who will forward the information when we confirm enrollment.Please bring, email or fax the following:

___Student's birth certificate and immunization record
___Yourgovernment issued photo identification such as a driver's license
___Acopy of an official document such as a utilitiy bill orlease/purchase agreementthatconfirms your residence
___Most recent report card and withdrawal grades
___IEP/504 plan, if one is currently used
___TB test if previously enrolledwith an out-of-state school. Thereis a 3-day waiting period. It is availableat
JeffersonCounty Health Department (304-728-3306) at 1948 Wiltshire Rd., Kearneysville, WV 25430, or a

physician of your choice.
