The following will explain how we determine if a child is tardy to school or counted absent.


According to county policy 4.3 - Attendance -For statistical purposes, attendance will be reported and aggregated to the nearest half-day according to the following definitions in 4.3.1 and 4.3.2

4.3.1*Full-day attendance is being present at least .74 of the school day.

4.3.2*Half-day attendance is being present at least .50 of the school day.

*Note: If a student arrives at school after 11:10 a.m., he or she will be counted absent for a half-day a.m.

*Note: If a student leaves before 12:51 p.m., he or she will be counted absent for a half-day p.m.

*Note: Athletes must be in attendance in school a full 4 periods during the day of any athletic event or contest in which they may be involved, unless it is the judgment of the principal and/or prior arrangements are made that they be excused. It should be noted that this is to include all practice sessions and that it may be necessary for a coach to excuse an athlete from active participation in a contest or practice for such reasons as illness or parents' requests.

Regular attendance to school is MANDATORY in order to participate in activities according to the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission.

A student athlete is expected to have regular attendance and to be at school on time. On days following competition, athletes are expected to be at school on time tardies due to a late night school related event may be unexcused.


Any student who arrives at school after the start of the school day, at 7:40 a.m., and before 11:10 a.m., will be counted tardy to school for that school day.

Students with excessive tardies to school will be required to attend a SAT meeting at the school. The principal will refer the student's name to the county Attendance Director for notification of excessive tardies.
